First snowfall of 2008

As I drove home from work yesterday, a light snowfall started coming down. I took out my mobile phone and recorded this short video clip. I was at the Georgetown Rd exit off I-495, in Bethesda, MD.
If I am to be accurate, I should say it’s not the first snowfall of the season, but the [...]

Congratulations, President Obama!

We have seen democracy in action, and we have achieved something amazing, as a country: we have elected the first African-American president. That’s something that goes a long way to wipe the wrongs of the past, and is something that would have probably made some of our country’s founders proud, had they been able to [...]

We voted today!

We got back a few minutes ago from voting for Barack Obama. Our polling place was Walter Johnson High School, in North Bethesda, MD. The line wasn’t too long. We waited about 25 minutes in line and it took about 5 minutes to vote.

The voting machines were electronic, and — I’m disappointed to say this [...]

The Gipsy Kings in concert at Wolf Trap

We just got back from the Gipsy Kings concert at Wolf Trap. It was as fun as we expected it to be, and more! I’d never seen them in concert before, and neither had my wife, so nothing prepared us for the ebullient barrage of seven guitars playing in unison. It’s a unique experience, one [...]

Photos from TECH cocktail DC 2

This past Thursday evening, Ligia and I attended the 2nd DC TECH cocktail mixer/conference, and it was a lot of fun. It was held at MCCXXIII, a club on Connecticut Ave. Frank Gruber and Eric Olson, the TC co-founders, hosted their first TC DC event at the same venue last year. They invited me to [...]

Happy Easter!

We’re getting ready to have our Easter meal, and Ligia cooked some really delicious pastries. They’re traditional Easter foods in Romania. The first you see below is called Cozonac, and the second is Pasca.

Both are made with pretty much the same ingredients, but their texture and look is quite different, as you can see. The [...]

Goodbye, Smooth Jazz

While I’m on the subject of radio, I’d like to say goodbye to a station that I enjoyed listening to over the past five years I’ve lived here in DC: Smooth Jazz 105.9 (WJZW). It’s been in my radio presets for all of that time.
One morning, as I tuned in, expecting a change from the [...]

Bethesda photowalk tomorrow

For those of you that can make it, we’ll meet at the street-level plaza of the Bethesda metro station at 2 PM. Let’s hope it won’t rain. This was organized by Mark Anderson. There’s more information on Photowalking.org, including a map. And there’s a Flickr discussion too. See you there!

Happy New Year!

Things were quite busy at our home as the New Year arrived. I was working on my site, transferring the content over from ComeAcross and making sure the feeds were pointing the right away. That was my New Year’s surprise, something that I’d planned to do for quite some time. I wanted to move all [...]

Merry Christmas!

I know Christmas isn’t celebrated by everyone, but if you’re one of those who does celebrate it, Merry Christmas! Even though the origins of the date are pagan, the meaning we have chosen to ascribe to it over time is certainly worth celebrating. For those among us who are Christians, it means our Savior’s birth. [...]

The Olympus E-3 Launch Party

Back on August 15, I wrote about the “new E-1″, the Pro DSLR from Olympus that would replace the existing E-1. I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the launch party for that new DSLR, officially called the E-3, on October 16. The party was held at the Museum of Natural History in NYC, and [...]

The reason behind our trip to Romania

You may recall that I mentioned a recent trip to Romania in a few of my posts. The occasion for our trip was a joyous one, thank goodness: my wife’s sister got married. I would have loved to post a few photos of them, but she and her husband would prefer to stay off the [...]
