One of my most favorite photos. Not sure why it’s not one of my more popular at Flickr, but I like it. A LOT.
In May of 2007, I happened to be at the top of the Key Bridge Marriott Hotel in Arlington, VA. That hotel has the most amazing view of DC and Arlington from its ballroom, which sits right on top of it and has floor to ceiling windows.
I also just happened to have a video camera [...]

A little statuette in a friend’s home. As you can guess from the photo’s title, I am somewhat cynical when it comes to evaluating the current health of our country.
Our medical insurance policy is with Cigna. We’re on the Open Access Plus plan. After I renewed my Cigna policy recently, I got our new insurance cards, and noticed that the premiums and copays increased as follows:
PCP Visit ($20 vs $15)
Specialist ($40 vs $30)
Hospital ER ($100 vs $50)
Urgent Care ($50 vs $25)
Rx ($10/25/50 vs $10/20/45)
Those [...]

On Friday, I wanted to blog a photo that one of my contacts from Flickr, Andie Smith, had published. I noticed she didn’t have the “Blog This” button enabled on that photo, so I posted [...]
A few weeks ago, I took my Flickr photos out of the site feed [reference]. Last night, I put them back in. Turns out taking them out cut their views by about 60-80%. That taught me two things:
Showed me how few of the hundreds of people who’ve added me as a contact at Flickr actually [...]
» Go to this postGuess what I saw in the parking lot at work? Fledging green heron chicks [reference]. (My thanks to Jorge for identifying them properly.)
I’d noticed the herons flying in and out at times during the past few months, but never even heard or saw the chicks before this, so I didn’t know they’d nested there. Around [...]
A night in recent memory featured an almost-full moon and gloomy skies. I took photos. It looked like something out of a scary movie. I used the digital zoom on my camera in order to get closer to the moon, and this means some of the photos aren’t as clear as they should be. Still, [...]

Took this in Moldova, Romania, last September. Would love to revisit that place and a few others I saw. You rarely see such beauty these days.
Another place I’d love to visit in Romania is Muntii Apuseni. Never got the chance to see them [...]
Here’s what will work, because it’s backed by law.
Unwanted phone calls
What I did to cut down on my telemarketing phone calls was to register with the National Do Not Call Registry (it’s free). I screen all my phone calls as well, through Caller ID and voicemail. I let telemarketers and phone numbers that [...]
