TigerDirect suppresses negative product reviews

Ultra All-In-One USB 2.0 Flash Card ReaderA while back, I purchased the Ultra All-in-One USB card reader from TigerDirect. Although they advertise heavily, and that’s really annoying to me, I like them and order from them every few months. After using the Ultra card reader, it was obvious to me that its build quality was horrible. I had trouble inserting all of my CF cards into its slot, which was too large, and not cut correctly for the cards to slide into the pins right away. I always had to keep at it for minutes, trying to make sure I wasn’t bending the pins as I pushed in the CF cards. I even bent one of the pins once, and had to straighten it with tweezers.

At any rate, I gave the reader away, because I was fed up with it, and got something else which works more reliably. But I did want to let others know that this Ultra card reader shouldn’t be purchased if they intended to use it with CF cards, so I filed a customer review with TigerDirect. More than two months later, they still haven’t published it. And today, I tried filing another, only to be told by their site that I couldn’t, because I’d already submitted one. All of the reviews present on the site for this product are now positive, and list 4 or 5 stars. My original review never made it live, and I bet plenty of other people’s reviews, for this or other products, never made it either.

I’m really disappointed that TigerDirect is clearly suppressing negative product reviews. Their goal is obvious: to sell their stock without regard for the truth about a certain product. Whose fault is it that they purchased too many of these Ultra card readers without testing them first? Not ours, for sure. Now they want to unload them on unwitting customers, and they’re not letting their loyal customers warn others about how badly made this product really is. Who knows how many other negative reviews are suppressed?

In case you’re looking for a card reader, you may want to skip the Ultra, unless you have no need whatsoever to read CF cards. It seemed to do just fine with SD cards. And you may also want to mistrust the reviews posted at TigerDirect. They’re skewed to sell their products, not to tell the truth.

Oh, and you should also know that TigerDirect will add you to their mailing lists automatically when you order, and will NOT remove you when you unsubscribe. I’ve had it happen to me twice now, with both my Hotmail and Gmail addresses. Keep that in mind as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I hate companies that don’t care about customers. I haven’t used Tigerdirect, and now probably won’t because of the spam if for no other reason. I use newegg.com, they have a lot of reviews, good and bad, for their products. I’ve made purchase decisions based on reviews and always trust the negative reviews more than positive reviews. I’m never sure if positive reviews are real or submitted by inside people.

Thanks Gary! I used Newegg once and liked it. They processed my order fast and shipped it just as fast. I really need to remember them more when I shop. I have this group of sites that have proven themselves reliable over time, and I tend to use them often. Gotta include Newegg in there.

I have the same experience. The Centon memory sticks I bought from them didn’t work and the rebate never arrived. And whats worst, Tiger Direct never published my negative review on the product.
