BSO’s Annual Donor Thank You Concert

Ligia and I attended the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s 2007 Annual Donor Thank You Concert last night. It was held at Strathmore Concert Hall. Pete & Nicole, thank you for the tickets! It was simply amazing.
I realized two things during the concert:

The older I get, the more I appreciate classical music.
The BSO is very good.

Ligia and [...]

Photos from the Alexandria photowalk

Last Saturday morning, Ligia and I met up with Keith McCammon and held our first DC area photowalk, as announced last week. Even though rain was predicted for that day, the weather was fantastic. We got there around 7:30 am and had a wonderful time walking on the docks and through the streets, photographing all [...]

After looking around for a storage solution to house my growing collection of photographs, I found the Western Digital My Book World Edition II. I’ve been storing my photos on single external hard drives so far, but [...]

Right here with you

I took this photo during our recent camping trip to the Blue Ridge mountains. Although the sky was overcast during our first night, it cleared up afterwards, and we couldn’t believe how many stars were visible during our second night. It was so beautiful and peaceful, that I couldn’t help but feel God’s presence there.

How things stand in Iraq

I’ve been against the war in Iraq from the start. After we went in, I thought we ought to stay in there and clean up our mess, that we couldn’t leave the country the way it was — in shambles. But now, things are so bad, for everyone around, that I have no clue what [...]

Should I get Canon or Nikon?

I’ve gotten asked this question a few times lately, and it’s probably a good idea to share my thoughts publicly. Here’s an email conversation I had earlier today:
B.T.: “Simply put, is the Canon 30D or the Nikon D80 the best way to go? [...] Was about to get the Nikon D40, but then got [...]

Why I turned off comments at Flickr

On June 8, 2007, I turned off comments on my photos at Flickr. Things had gotten out of hand. I’ve gotten a few emails about it since, so I thought I should explain why I did it.
I started using Flickr seriously in January of this year. At first, I was interested in seeing what people [...]

Alexandria photowalk this Saturday morning

I’m going to a photowalk organized by Keith McCammon this Saturday morning. It’ll be in downtown Alexandria by the docks. We’re going to meet up at 7:30 am near the Torpedo Factory. It should be really fun. I love early morning shoots, and if it won’t rain, the weather will be nice and cool. The [...]

Great ads

I liked the Volkswagen “Unpimp your ride” commercials instantly when they came out. I’ve always liked clean lines and elegant cars. I think “pimped” cars are in truly bad taste. The mods are almost always done for the wrong reasons, and usually only to show off in garish fashion. The poor cars end up looking [...]

TigerDirect suppresses negative product reviews

A while back, I purchased the Ultra All-in-One USB card reader from TigerDirect. Although they advertise heavily, and that’s really annoying to me, I like them and order from them every few months. After using the Ultra card reader, it was obvious to me that its build quality was horrible. I had trouble inserting all [...]

Busy, busy, busy

It’s a bit unusual for me that I can’t find the time to write posts here at ComeAcross, but that’s just what’s happening. I left home shortly after noon on Friday with Ligia to go camping with close friends of ours in the Blue Ridge mountains. Had loads of fun, and we visited Natural Bridge. [...]
