Riding on the CFR

While in Romania to take care of family matters, I’ve had the displeasure of riding on the CFR (Caile Ferate Romane), which can be translated as the Romanian Ferovial Transport, or Romanian Railroads. Its equivalent in the States is Amtrak. They’re both state-run, and that’s where the similarity ends.
There are four classes of trains that [...]

China’s growing energy problem, and the US policy quandary

Just read an article written by someone at AP and published on MSNBC, entitled “World feels China’s growing thirst for oil“. I wish they’d publish author names as well! This was a very well-written article, and full of insights into the issue.
If you thought China’s energy demands are small still compared to the US, you’d [...]

Sporadic posts for the next couple of weeks

I’ve had a family emergency and my time will be taken up with it for the next two weeks. I’ll set the site to publish photos during this time, and I may or may not get a chance to write. I’ll see.

The original Powers of Ten, by Charles and Ray Eames

This is great! The original “Powers of Ten” video, done by Charles and Ray Eames, has been placed online! If there’s some point this should drive home, it’s this: we are some pretty insignificant specks of dust in a very, very large universe. We ought to be a little more humble and respectful of our [...]

A very cool walk around the Gaza pyramids

This fellow called Jason Clay is working out of Cairo, Egypt, as a graphic designer, and he’s put together these great videos of the pyramids made up of hundreds of still shots. He walked around them, and took shots every 10 seconds. The result is very cool!

Another fairly old joke

Also back while I was in college, I saw this joke about a supposed American aircraft carrier trying to convince a Canadian lighthouse to divert their course in order to avoid a collision. Well, I stumbled onto again (through StumbleUpon), and wanted to share it. Click on image to enlarge.

Mathematical proof that girls are “evil”

I saw this clean mathematical proof that girls are “evil” way back when I was in college, and I just stumbled onto it again. Just had to share it. I wish I knew who came up with it.
