John Scheinman of The Washington Post reports that doctors fused Barbaro’s right rear leg successfully during a surgery that lasted more than 5 hours at the University of Pennsylvania’s Bolton Center. Barbaro can now stand on his own, but whether he’ll recover fully is anyone’s guess. The leg still has to heal, and that’s the more difficult part. If he does recover, a multi-million dollar career as a stallion awaits him. Fees could go as high as $100,000 per foal. That’s a lucky horse!
