Americans commute longer, farther than ever

This Reuters article discusses how Americans are commuting longer and longer these days. An example is Dave Givens, who drives 370 miles (!) to work, each trip. It’s a seven hour round-trip! It’s just unbelievable. This is crazy to me! I’m looking for a job that’s really close to home, and these people are looking for jobs that are farther away… And we wonder why we, as Americans, waste so much energy! I doubt these people would do it if fuel costs were higher, and they’re poised to get higher soon.

For an additional perspective on this, see an idea of mine here.
