Macromedia Studio 8

Just installed Studio 8 on my laptop, and, to my surprise, Freehand wasn’t included in the package. I checked with a colleague who runs the Windows version just to make sure, and indeed, it’s been dropped. If that’s the first casualty of the merger between Adobe and Macromedia, I wonder what the next one will [...]

A practical approach to shaving

For First-Time Shavers or Those With Sensitive Skin
I’ve wanted to write an article about shaving for some time, but didn’t get around to it until now. In a society where shaving products can be found virtually everywhere, there is a surprising paucity of resources about just how one should shave. I recognize shaving is a [...]

Macromedia and Adobe updaters are buggy

Macromedia and Adobe updaters stink.
Today I discovered that my Extension Manager doesn’t recognize that I’ve got Dreamweaver MX installed (even though I’ve got the entire Studio MX 2004). So, I took a deep breath and downloaded an update for Dreamweaver, and one for the Extension Manager.
Here I am now, after having run the Dreamweaver updater. [...]

Music players should match genres with equalizer presets

This idea is so simple I can’t believe it’s not already in use! There I was during lunch, listening to my iPod in Shuffle mode, and it dawned on me how annoying it was that if I wanted to change the Equalizer present, I’d have to maneuver through several menus, then when it advanced to [...]

The next iPod?

I have a hunch the next generation iPod will have a widescreen. I just don’t think the current 4:3 screen is going to be around for long. Obviously the videos on iTunes are a success. The next step is to deliver them in 16:9 format, and then possibly deliver full movies as well. This could [...]

Speedometers should store speed for last 10-15 minutes of driving

I got a ticket on the 1st of December, a trumped up charge for reckless driving through the Virginia countryside. My wife and I both looked at the speedometer when the trooper started flashing his lights behind us, and we were doing 72-73 tops. We’ve got a MINI, and it’s really hard to miss the [...]

Google should offer web hosting

Google has been tinkering with the idea of immediate indexing of changed content in websites for some time. Its current solution is to have you place certain files and bits of code inside your site, that can notify the Google bots when your content has changed. But there’s a much simpler solution: why not offer [...]

Just launched a new podcast called The Come Across Podcast, and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that it was listed in the iTunes Music Store within a day of my submission. I had to wait two weeks for my Bible podcasts to get listed. Here’s the feed link, courtesy of FeedBurner.
